ISO 17025 is the most required standard to be implemented in laboratory. To maintain quality of quality control lab, to build infrastructure of the laboratory as per required international standard, to give satisfaction to customer about the reliability of analytical lab performance and last but not least to build confidence of the management and analyst on their working, we have to assess our laboratories against the ISO 17025:2017 standard. The trainer has designed the workshop as each trainee can assess his/her own facility according to the standard and analyze the gaps.

Learning Outcomes:

By this activity each trainee can have real insight about what should he/she must do in terms of developing procedures, perform validation / measurement uncertainties and improve present infrastructure against the standard.

Trainer's Profile:

Dr. Muhammad Jahangir, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at GC University, Lahore has earned his Post-Doctoral expertise in Chemistry from USA. He is an effective trainer and an authority on the subject both ISO 17025 and Analytical Chemistry. He is engaged with COMSATS University Islamabad since last many years and has trained many individuals from industry, academia and government agencies to implement ISO 17025 in their respective organizations.

On Friday, April 26, 2019, Ms. Aila Khan, Senior Lecturer and Academic Course Advisor, Western Sydney University visited COMSATS University Islamabad.  Ms. Khan represented the Business School at WSU. This visit was a follow up of the meeting with Ms. Sabeeh Qayyum, In-Country Manager, Pakistan, Innovative Research Universities for promoting academic collaboration between CUI and Australian Universities. The purpose of the visit was to discuss ways of future collaboration and engagement activities between CUI and Western Sydney University. Ms. Khan was warmly received by Head International Office (IO) and his team. She was first given tour of CUI’s state-of- the-art Junaid Zaidi Library which left her in awe and admiration.

Afterwards, in a meeting, Head IO gave a brief presentation on CUI to familiarize the guest with various campuses, milestones, strengths and achievements of the university. Moreover, the Head IO shared that a concrete collaboration should be shaped between both universities in the form of student/faculty/staff exchange which was equally reciprocated by Ms. Khan. Head, IO also suggested that both sides should nominate two focal persons to take the matters further for materializing a strong and beneficial academic cooperation.

At the end of her visit, Ms. Khan expressed profound gratitude over the warm reception and hospitality extended to her by CUI.

COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) in collaboration with the United Stated Education Foundation (USEFP) arranged a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) mock test on 23-24 April 2019. The test was held at the USEFP premises in Islamabad. The objective of the GRE mock test was to enable the CUI participants to assess their knowledge and skills on Verbal Reasoning; Quantitative Reasoning sections before the actual GRE exam.

To incentivize the participants, test charges were waved off by USEFP and top three scorers of the mock test having over 300 score would be given free GRE voucher worth US$205 by the USEFP. The initiative was well received with candidates registering from Faculty/Staff and Final year students from CUI, Islamabad. Around 40 candidates were short listed and appeared for this mock test.

These test sessions were organized by the Directorate of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development.
