French delegates from the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and a number of representatives of the Conference of Chancellors of Universities (CPU) paid a visit to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT) of I.R. of Iran, on 30 th May 2016. In this meeting, the French delegates had a discussion with Prof. Salar Amoli, the Acting Minister in International Scientific Cooperation, and a number of representatives of Iranian Universities and Research Institutions, to elaborate on organizing the events for the visit of the biggest European delegates to Iran, the Minister of Higher Education and Research and rectors of French universities and research institutions, in October 2016, and discussing the fields of scientific cooperation between the two countries.

In this meeting, the French side expressed their interest in expanding scientific cooperation, based on the high quality of science production of Iranian universities and students and referred to Iran as a strategic country in the region. They mentioned their willingness to ‘Issuing joint-degree and joint post-graduate thesis and dissertations’, ‘exchange and mobility of students’, ‘Exchange of lecturers and faculty members for research and educational sabbatical leaves’, and ‘Joint Venture Research programmes’, in the fields of science and technology, as the main fields of interests in the visit of French delegates to Iran in October.

Prof. Salar Amoli, referred to the statistical data on the number of students in Iran, significant achievements of Iranian scientists and scholars, and the ascending scientific growth in the fields of higher education, research and technology in Iran, and briefly explained the scientific mechanism of Iranian universities, and highly welcomed the suggested fields of cooperation by the French side. He hope for a step by step and yet continuous cooperation between the countries and suggested for establishment of Persian and French language chairs in France and Iran, respectively.

The two countries shall continue to arrange for various visits, meetings and events that will take place on the visit of the French delegates in October to Tehran.
