The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) organized a Roundtable Discussion on "Women Development after the 18th Constitutional Amendment" on 28 November 2019 at COMSATS University Islamabad. The expert participants at the discussion included

The Discussion was made possible with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), Pakistan Office, Islamabad

The COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Embassy of France and Embassy of German jointly organized Panel Discussion on the most current and pressing global issue of “Climate Change and Security” on November 11, 2019 in COMSATS University Islamabad. His Excellency Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck was the chief guest of the event.

His Excellency Ambassador of Germany in Pakistan had a meeting with the Rector CUI, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar T.I. along-with other senior CUI Officials which include Registrar CUI, Dr. Faheem Qureshi; Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti; Dean Faculty of Architecture and Design Dr. Samra Mohsin Khan and Head International Office Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch with his team also attended the meeting. Rector briefed the Ambassador about the academic, research and organizational achievements of CUI. Prof. Arshad Saleem Bhatti gave an overview about the ongoing research collaboration between CUI and German universities. The Ambassador admired CUI’s remarkable growth within two decades and expressed his pleasure on learning about the active research cooperation between both sides. The Rector also presented a shield as a memoir to the visiting German Ambassador.

The Ambassador of German proceed to the venue of the Panel Discussion. In his opening remarks at the Panel Discussion the German Ambassador thanked CUI for providing this great platform of discussion on the imperative topic of Climate Change and Security. He said that he is especially delighted to witness that the German and French sides are sitting together to discuss a common and alarming global subject.

The panel of experts consisted of Dr. Adrien Detgas from Adelphi, Germany; Mr. Bastien Alex from Institute of International and Strategic Relations, France; Dr. Muhammad Abid from the Center for Climate Research and Development (CCRD), CUI, Pakistan and Dr. Imran Syed, Head Center for Policy Studies, CUI, Pakistan.

Each speaker gave a detailed talk discussing the Climate security risks, challenges and prevention strategies. The panel discussion centered on the need to have global preventive foreign and defense policies in place at the governmental and institutional levels to tackle this serious problem. The moderator of the discussion Dr. Anjum Rasheed an Associate Professor at the Center for Climate Research and Development, steered the discussion on the need to act now and take solid measures to prevent crisis and reduce threats to global peace before they become acute. The audience shared their comments and asked relevant questions at the end which were answered and discussed in detail by the panelists.

Head Department of Meteorology Dr. Kalim Ullah presented his concluding remarks thanking both the German and French Embassies and CUI departments for making the event a success.

At the end, souvenir shields were presented to all the panelists and a group photo marked the end of a successful event.

The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) in partnership with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) held a Roundtable Discussion on “Health and Environment” on the 24th of October 2019 at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI).

The aim of the Roundtable was to examine intersecting issues that require a multifaceted approach to taking problems of health and environment.  The resource persons at the Roundtable included Dr. Faheem Tahir, National Institute of Health; Dr. Ejaz Ahmad Khan, Health Services Academy; Dr. Anjum Rasheed, Centre for Climate Research & Development; and Dr. Jabir Syed, Meteorology Department, CUI. the Roundtable was moderated by Dr. Imran Syed, Head CPS.

The International Office along with the collaboration of the Centre for Policy Studies and Humanities Department COMSATS University Islamabad arranged an interesting panel discussion on the topic: "Extremist and Security Narratives” at COMSATS University Islamabad, Video Conference Hall, Junaid Zaid Library on August 3, 2018 from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

The Panel discussion included a lecture by Dr. Julian Droogan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Security Studies & Criminology, Macquarie University on the topic “Social Media and Terrorism”. The Session also included a lecture of Dr. Imran Syed, Head, Centre for Policy Studies, COMSATS University Islamabad on the topic “Narratives of Terrorism & Security” and this was followed by a lecture by Dr. Sohail Ahmad, Assistant Professor, International Relations, COMSATS University Islamabad.

A question answer session was also conducted at the end of the session. The Session was well attended by CUI faculty members, staff and students.

Keeping in view the significance of coming elections 2018, Center for Policy Studies (CPS) CIIT, Islamabad organized a Roundtable Discussion on Electoral Processes and Public Policy Issues in Pakistan on May 3, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at BIC 1st floor CIIT Islamabad. The Aim of the session was to raise awareness amongst CIIT students and faculty members about Election procedures and processes, public policy issues and creating a research agenda in the field of electoral studies and public policy. The Session were moderated by Dr. Kalsoom Sumra and Dr. Shakeel Ahmad from CPS. The session was well attended by CIIT student, faculty members and dignitaries from civil society.

Dr. Imran Syed, Head CPS, CIIT Islamabad opened the session with the welcome remarks. In the beginning of the session, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad from CPS talked about “Electoral Studies: theoretical understanding”

Mr. Kanwar M. Dilshad Ex-Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan and Chairman National Democratic Foundation talked about “Electoral Management and Choices” followed by a lecture of Mr. Zafar Ullah Khan, CEO Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services on “Would Electoral Act 2017 Strengthen Electoral Integrity? Pakistan’s Debate in Comparative Perspective”

Professor Ijaz Shafi Gillani, Gallup, Pakistan talked about “Electoral Systems and Processes in Pakistan”. Dr. Faqir Hussain Ex- Registrar, Supreme Court of Pakistan talked about “Legal framework of Election, 2018”. Mr. Muhammad Khizer Aziz, DG (IT) ECP briefed about “Use of I.T in Electoral Management and Governance for coming election 2018”.
