Capacity Building in Higher Education: A Two Days Training Under Erasmus + Program held in Pakistan
Islamabad: A delegation from Cardiff Metropolitan University, United Kingdom, Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France, and University of Salamanca, Spain visited Pakistan from June 21-23, 2022. The purpose of the visit was to conduct training programme entitled, “Academic Recognition and Recognition of Staff” under B-international project. It was three days training program which was simultaneously conducted in COMSATS University Islamabad and at National University of Science and technology Islamabad.
B-International is a capacity-building project in higher education and is financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. The consortium partners of the project are a) Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK; b) Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France; c) University of Bologna, Italy; d) University of Salamanca, Spain; e) COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan; f) Lahore University of Management Sciences, Pakistan; g) National University of Science and Technology, Pakistan; and h) Pakistan Institute of Fashion Sciences, Pakistan.
The delegates of the training session were received by the Head International Office Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch on June 21, 2022 and was given a warm welcome. A visit of the campus facilities was conducted followed by a brief introduction about the CUI. The delegation had a meeting with the Registrar CUI, Professor Dr. Sajjad A. Madani, who greeted the guests and stated that the first two years of the B-International project were coincided with a global pandemic and this is the first time that all of the B-International project partners are meeting face-to-face. He also appreciated and mentioned that the colleagues from the eight universities across Europe and Pakistan worked passionately and tirelessly for the last two and a half years adapting work plans and delivering to achieve outstanding success in the area of internationalization and B-International.
The lunch was hosted by the Rector CUI, Professor Muhammad T. Afzal in the honor of the delegation and participants of B international training. Speaking on the occasion, the Rector thanked the delegation for choosing CUI as their partner in the project. He stated that such a project deserves to be celebrated and that the B-International project will reinforce Pakistan’s HEC Vision 2025 on internationalization through building capacity within the higher education sector, enhancing international collaboration and supporting the development of global mind-sets of the youth.
Ms. Anna Dukes, Head of Global Outreach and Operations, Cardiff Metropolitan University, United Kingdom thanked the Rector and team of CUI for the warm welcome. She said that this training is a key milestone in the projects and also mentioned that the colleagues from Europe have the first opportunity to deepen their understanding of Pakistan. She further added that this trip would be the start of many visits to all partner nations of the project. She emphasized the need for further engagement among the partner universities for working on more collaborative academic and research activities.
A training of representatives of partner universities was held from June 21-22, 2022 and ended with the commitment to strengthen the academic collaboration with the partner universities as this project being the first step of such initiative for internationalization collaboration and there is a long way to go!
A Dissemination event was held on June 23, 2022 for propagating about the project and its achievements. The event ended with happy note and thanks to all the representatives of the partner universities of the B International Project.
