A three member delegation from Federal Republic of Nigeria visited CUI Islamabad on 10th December 2018. The delegation was headed by Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Nigeria, Mr. Abayomi Oguntunde, Director Bioresource Technology Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Mr.  Samuel Thomas, SA to Permanent Secretary. The delegation was accompanied by the officials of COMSATS Headquarters. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the officials of International Office of COMSATS University Islamabad.

The purpose of their visit was to have meeting with the Rector CUI and other senior officials of CUI for discussing and identifying mutual educational and scientific cooperation between the two countries.  The meeting session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector CUI. Other CUI Officials including Dean Sciences, Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti, Dean Architecture, Ms. Samra Mohsin Khan and Senior Manager IO, Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch were also present at the meeting.  

Both sides expressed their interest to begin collaboration in the fields of architecture, chemical technology, food and biotechnology. The Rector extended invitation to the top universities of Nigeria for taking the cooperation process ahead.

The delegation also had visit of the campus and were shown its facilities and infrastructure. The delegates were very delighted to see the state-of-the-art educational services offered by CUI to its students.

Later, the worthy Rector presented souvenirs to the delegates. The meeting concluded on a high note with a vote of thanks from both sides.

A three member delegation comprising of Prof. Dr. Xiuming Liu, Dr. Mingming Ma and Dr. Xuegang Mao from Fujian Normal University (FNU), Fuzhou, China visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on Thursday 19th Nov, 2018.

The delegation was received by Senior Manager, International Office of CUI. The delegation was shown different facilities of the campus. The delegation called on Rector CUI and signed Document of Understanding to conduct joint research projects on impact of climate change on the ecosystem and ancient agricultural progress in Indus river valley and Himalaya region. Dr. Athar Hussain, Chairman Meteorology Department and Head of CCRD and Prof. Dr. Xiuming Liu, Professor, Fujian Normal University (FNU), Fuzhou, China signed DoU. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector CUI, Mr. Tahir Naeem, Director P&D and HRD and Dr. Faheem A. Qureshi, Registrar CUI were present during the ceremony. 

Further the delegation is currently conducting field visits to explore sediments of the farm land along with ancient sites of Indus civilization in Punjab and Sindh province.

An eight member delegation led by Prof. Wang Xinyuan and his team from Heritage Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing, China visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on November 19, 2018.

The delegation was received by Dr. Shahina Tariq, Associate Professor, Department of Meteorology and Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Senior Manager, International Office. They were shown different facilities of the campus. The delegation called on Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector CUI in his office in the presence of Mr. Tahir Naeem, Director P& D and HRD and Arch. Zain-ul-Abedin.

Rector CUI acclaimed the visit of Prof. Wang and his team who have been visiting with the purpose of initiating pilot work of exploring and conserving ancient archaeological sites and other world heritage sites around Islamabad under the Digital Belt and Road (DBAR) initiative, which is a ten-year action plan for Scientific Cooperation on Remote Sensing of Environment and Resource that was developed earlier in 2016 between the Chinese professor and Dr. Shahina Tariq, one of the senior professors at CUI.  

Moreover, Rector CUI and Prof. Wang vowed to build a cooperative research platform on global changes, space archaeology and digital heritage, especially for using remote sensing technology to investigate, recognize and assesses the natural reserves, world heritage and historic sites on the CPEC with the main purpose of conservation by both the institution. The meeting ended with the presentation of souvenir.

The Rector CUI hosted a dinner in honor of the RADI delegates. H.E. Mr. Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan also participated in the dinner.

A four member delegation comprising of Dr. Simone Burkhart, Head of Scholarship and Financial Division, Dr. Katharina Fleckenstein, Head of Scholarship Section, Ms. Dagmar Beerwerth, In-charge Scholarship programs and Ms. Inge Iqbal, DAAD Director Islamabad Office visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on 6th November 2018 with the intent to learn more about CUI and our cooperation with Heidelberg University.

The delegation was shown facilities and infrastructure of CUI during round of Islamabad campus. They also witnessed the energetic musical performances being made by the students on the eve of student week.  The occasion completely captivated them and intrigued them at all levels of imagination.

A cohort of faculty members comprising of faculty from Mathematics Department, Physics Department, Bio Sciences Department, Chemistry Department and International Office met and interacted with the German delegates in a detailed meeting that was scheduled for this purpose. To showcase CUI, an impactful power-point presentation was made by Senior Manager International Office, followed by video call with Dr. Abdullah Shah who briefed the delegates about CUI’s cooperation with Heidelberg University.

Taking note of CUI, its achievements and desires, the German delegates disclosed the opportunities available with DAAD.  Senior Manager IO, on his part expressed his pleasure and communicated in detail, CUI wish-list, having a much larger scale and impact; which was positively taken.      

In the end, the closing of the visit and meeting was done on an upbeat note with exchange of mementos and an all cheerful group photo.
