We are pleased to invite you and your colleagues to join COMSATS’ webinar on 'South-South Cooperation: Creating headways for Post-Pandemic Inclusive Recovery', which will take place on 21st September 2021 (Tuesday) from 14:00 to 16:00 PST/ 09:00-11:00 GMT.


This webinar is being held to commemorate the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation (12th September 2021). The webinar aims to provide a forum for exchange of institutional experiences and lessons learnt in pursuing initiatives in countries of the South for S&T-led sustainable development, especially under the current COVID19 pandemic.


The event will have online participation of speakers from UN agencies, international development agencies, academia, and policy and diplomatic circles. The webinar will highlight the replicable measures, policies and strategic approaches that have been adopted in mitigating the COVID-19 crisis based on the experiences shared by the invited speakers. It will be very interesting to learn from each other and adopt new norms. In this regard, any recommendations for mainstreaming South-South Cooperation in S&T for achieving SDGs during post-pandemic era will be most welcome from all participants.

The International Office, COMSATS University Islamabad organized an online training session titled “Perception vs Reality of Corporate life and how to prepare and appear for an interview” on June 14, 2021 from 8.00 pm to 9.30 pm. The purpose of the session was to give an insight to the students into the realities of corporate world vs their expectations and to prepare them for interviews (dos and don’ts).

Muhammad Imran, C.E.O of Eminence Systems Pvt. Ltd was the resource person for the interactive session. The students took keen interest in the session which provided them an overview for developing an understanding of the corporate life, rules of business, work ethics, good practices, as well as how to prepare and appear for the job interviews. The information was shared through a very interactive, interesting and lucid presentation. The event gathered prominent visibility as one hundred participants watched it on google meet while six hundred plus people viewed it live on Facebook.

In the end, the Head IO appreciated Muhammad Imran for taking his time out to conduct such a beneficial, illustrative and thought provoking session for CUI students. He also shared similar sessions will be conducted in the future as well to equip students for the upcoming challenges of the work life.

The webinar to provide hands on training aiming to strengthen capacity building on “Introduction to R for Hydrology” was organized on June 4, 2021 by UNESCO Chair on Knowledge Systems for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at COMSATS University, Wah Campus. New technology tools are rapidly emerging like R Programming Language of Data Science. By keeping its significance this warmup activity was arranged to engage youth to interact with an expert and gain advantage with his expertise in the field of Hydrology.
The resource person Dr. Zia Hashmi, having research experience in the field of Hydrology and Climate Change is heading the Water Resources and Glaciology Section at Global Change Impact Studies Centre, Islamabad, Pakistan and is doing work in mountain hydrology and glaciology in Pakistan. Dr. Zia conducted an interactive online training session including Introduction to R, Basic Commands and Functions of R, and explained R as cutting edge tool that enables seamless integration in hydrological workflow. He demonstrated Hydrologic Problems where R can help and R application in Hydrology.
The professionals from IOM; academicians from Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF), COMSATS University Islamabad, Sahiwal Campus and Wah Engineering College (WEC); and Students from the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, COMSATS University Islamabad, Islamabad Campus and COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus attended the webinar.
The Guest Speaker UNESCO Water Chair on IWRM, Dr. Muhammad Abid in his closing remarks thanked Dr. Zia for taking out his valuable time and sharing his expertise with young blood who enthusiastically wants to get familiar with the latest tool like R Programming Language. He emphasized that in account of scientific research and latest practices based on future predictions especially in climate change real time data modelling, graphical visualization and the hydrological modellers structuring would be done by using R language tool. He further motivated the participants to take part and hunt those learning opportunities to groom themselves for advancing in water and climate sciences. The Chair at the end thanked the organizers and ICE student chapter for their active contribution and making this event a success.

On the other hand, healthy ecosystems and their services provide opportunities for sustainable economic prosperity while at the same time providing defense against the negative effects of climate change.


Embracing the theme of Ecosystem Restoration this virtual conference will bring together key experts in the fields of ecosystem restoration, conservation and sustainable management from the Global South to share good practices and lessons learnt of ecosystem research and management, as well as to explore partnership opportunities to further collaborate on the topics of ecosystem restoration.
