An information session on Fulbright Degree Program and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) was held at the COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on November 28th, 2018 at 11:30 am.  Ms. Katherine Aziz and Ms. Mashal Naeem Khan education Advisors of United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) were invited for the said event. The session was attended by faculty/staff members and final year students of the Islamabad Campus.

The session started with recitation of the Glorious Quran and was followed by the presentation of Ms. Mashal Naeem Khan. She briefed the audience on the Fulbright application process and eligibility criteria. She informed that GRE is required for all applicants and Fulbright starts accepting applications in February and the deadline is around May.

Ms. Mashal Naeem Khan also discussed the format of GRE general test and informed that a GRE workshop would be conducted soon at the CUI, followed by GRE mock Test. To encourage the participants in taking the GRE mock test she announced that the top two scorers of the mock test having over 300 score would be given free GRE voucher worth US$205 by the USEFP.  

A good number of people attended this session and the participants keenly asked questions during the session. The participants acknowledged the usefulness of the information provided at the session.

This session was organized by the Directorate of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development.

Department of Meteorology organized an International Training Workshop on Mesoscale Modeling using Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model. The resource persons for the workshop were Prof. Dr. Lingkun Ran from Institute of Atmospheric Physics and Dr. Zhe Zhang from Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The workshop was held from 5 – 7 November 2018 in Seminar Room, Student Startup Business Centre, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI).

A Two-Day workshop on “International English Language Testing System” (IELTS) was held at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Islamabad Campus on 30-31 October, 2018. The workshop is part of activities, organized under the program “Information Seminars for Higher Studies Abroad” with the objective to educate and orient CUI prospective candidates with respect to selecting, preparing, financing and applying for higher studies abroad.

The purpose of the workshop was to guide young faculty/staff members and students for preparing the IELTS (Academic). Dr. Samina Nadeem and Ms. Saba Bahareen Mansur from the English Language Center-Department of Humanities, Islamabad Campus conducted this workshop and shared tips on how to attempt the different sections of the test.

Dr. Samina Nadeem was Advisor to the Department of Humanities, CUI. She did her PhD from Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) in the field of Languages and Linguistics. Ms. Saba Bahareen Mansur is Assistant Professor with the Department of Humanities, CUI, Islamabad Campus.  She is a recipient of the Hornby Scholarship for Master’s Program in TESOL from Leeds University, UK. 

The focus of the workshop was to familiarize the participants on the format of IELTS test and to provide sample tasks/activities. The Two-Day workshop was divided into four (04) sessions. The workshop started with the recitation of the Glorious Quran followed by an introduction to IELTS. For day one sections on Listening and Speaking were covered and for day two sections on Writing and Reading were covered. A copy of the presentation and the supporting material is uploaded at the CUI blogs.
All four sessions were interactive and a good number of faculty/staff members and students attended the workshop. The participants acknowledged the usefulness of the information provided by the learned trainers.

The workshop was organized by Directorate of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development.
