About Us

The Department of Biosciences was started in early 2003 with an aim to establish a School of Biological Sciences. Since its inception, the department has grown exponentially in terms of number of offered programs, qualified faculty members, BS, MS and PhD students and research publications. Currently, we have over 50 faculty members; out of which 37 are PhDs, while the rest are MS/MPhil qualified. Most of these faculty members are alumina of world's top class universities.

As of 2013, we have been offering two Undergraduate, six Master and 4 PhD programs in different domains of biological sciences. The total number of students are now exceeding 500.

We are committed to provide excellence and, therefore, we strive to equip our students with knowledge and skills that meaningfully contribute to the socio-economic growth of the country, as well as for the welfare and benefit of the society. We are proud that many of our graduates are contributing the society as educators, researchers, entrepreneurs, administrators and consultants. This is a testimony to the quality of training that we are delivering to them.

The History

The Department of Biosciences was established a few years back at the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Islamabad Campus. The department started with the BS Bioinformatics program in 2003 and currently has more than 125 students. This program is becoming very popular in the country and will fulfill the future needs of Pakistan in this very important field of study. In addition to the BS program the department has started MS/PhD programs in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Genetics and Developmental Biology.

For all these programs we have a highly qualified staff consisting of more than 30 members of which 12 have PhD's and are actively involved in research in different domains of Biosciences.

Bio Sciences is a growing Department and soon it will be housed in its own building in the new campus being constructed at Chak Shahzad, Islamabad.
