A pre-departure meeting with the participants of the Management Training at University of Bedfordshire, UK was held on July 8, 2017 at 11.45 at BIC building, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad.

Briefly, under the auspices of the HRD Program, the CIIT has embarked upon an initiative for placement of faculty and staff for “Management Training at the University of Bedfordshire, UK, July 15 -23, 2017’. Under the initiative, 45 candidates from faculty and staff corps have been selected for the award of Management training in a competitive and meritorious selection process instituted by the CIIT. These candidates have been selected from among the senior most employees at their respective departments from all the CIIT Campuses. The initiative aims at investing on the future of the Institution through the personal and professional development of the Trainees. The purpose is to prepare a corps of future sectional heads though providing opportunity for their professional grooming.

The meeting started with the recitation from the Glorious Quran. The Rector, CIIT, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar welcomed the participants. He emphasized on the importance of long term planning and shared his vision for the CIIT. He told the participants that innovation and research are the niche areas the CIIT should explore. He informed that the training program demonstrates that the Institution values those who have contributed well over the extended period of time and are capable of showing promise towards accelerating the future growth of the Institution.

This was followed by the talk of the honorable Dr. S.M. Junaid Zaidi, Executive Director, COMSATS. He shared his experiences with the participants. He shared that a good management and academic team had been the key factor for the success of CIIT. He advised the participants that during their stay in UK they should understand the philosophy behind their educational system and then try to adapt it according to our local values and principles.

The session was concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Tahir Naeem, Director Planning, Development and Human Resource Development, CIIT. He informed the participants that the training program is expected to broaden the exposure of CIIT faculty and staff by giving them an opportunity to get trained at one of the reputed universities in UK. He encouraged the participants to learn from ambiance of the UK higher education in context of observing their academic structure, physical structure, processes and policies, and then try to emulate the best practices learned when back home. He informed that the training is expected to build institutional capacity by creating an ensemble of qualified people capable of contributing to achieve mission of the CIIT.

Dr. Ashraf Jawaid, Deputy Vice Chancellor (External Relations) at the University of Bedfordshire joined the gathering during lunch. He addressed the participants and welcomed them to the University of Bedfordshire. Prof. Jawaid informed the participants that all the training sessions would be interactive. He encouraged them to ask questions and share their views and experiences with the trainers as both can learn a lot from each other.

The meeting was coordinated and organized by the Office of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development (P & D and HRD), CIIT Islamabad.
