Trees Planted

Islamabad Campus

COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), launched "Azaadi Plantation Drive” on August 14, 2018; with slogan “Adopt a Tree”. A total of 5000 trees of different species will be planted in this drive on sites specified by CDA. During “Adopt a Tree” campaign, CUI will not only plant the trees it will also take care of the plants for a year.

On the inaugural day of the campaign 2,000 trees were planted. 1,500 Jacaranda trees were planted on the green belt along Islamabad Express way, from Koral chowk to Gulberg green, similarly, 500 trees (Shukh Chain) were planted on the Green belt along Murree Road, from Rawal Chowk to Faizabad interchange Islamabad. Remaining 3,000 plants of Batangi, Kachnar and Shukh Chain will be planted in the coming weeks along Murree Road and Kuri Road. The Azadi Plantation Drive was purely conceived as a voluntarily initiative and the faculty, students and community donated generously for purchasing the plants. It was a great team work, resulted in training of our students to give something back to our beloved mother land.

Rector, COMSATS University Islamabad, Prof Dr. Raheel Qamar, T.I.; Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Johdat Ayaz; Chief Officer  Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Syed Najaf Iqbal; Additional Secretary Interior, Ms. Farah Hamid, inaugurated the Azadi Plantation Drive by planting Jacaranda trees on August 14, 2018, near Koral Chowk, Islamabad. Faculty members, students and general public joined the activity.



CUI, Wah Campus launched it’s Azadi ‘Tree Plantation’ campaign on August 13, 2018. A total of 4000 trees of different species were planted at CUI, Wah Campus, Wah and at the new campus site, New City, Phase-II, Wah Cantt. The planted trees included;

The Director Campus, CUI-Wah, Prof. Dr. Tayyeb Akram, inaugurated the drive with plantation of tree in Campus on August 13, 2018. Heads of Department, Senior faculty and Staff members participated in the drive and planted trees at new campus site, New City Phase-II, Wah Cantt.



Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat , Campus Director, CUI – Sahiwal, an Azadi Tree Plantation Drive was launched on 10th August, 2018, in collaboration with District Forest Office, Sahiwal. The campaign successfully raised 3,150 plants from the District Forest Office, Sahiwal, whereas, 2,100 plants were arranged from resources generated from donations.

The plantation Drive started on Friday, August 10, 2018 with a large number of faculty and staff participating in it. Over 1,000 trees were planted on the first day, while more than 2,500 trees were planted on the following day.

On the eve of Independence Day, the Tree Plantation Drive was accelerated as part of the celebrations with more than 1,750 trees planted in Sahiwal. The ceremony was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Campus Director, while Peer Ehsan ul Haq Idrees, Founder Chairman, Mr. Wasim Sajjad, District Forest Officer, Sahiwal, and large number of academicians, administrative officers/staff and students from various educational institutions participated in the activity.

Under the guidance of Campus Director CUI, Vehari, Prof. Dr. Khair-uz-Zaman, the Horticulture Section of CUI Vehari Campus launched an extensive tree plantation campaign at the Vehari campus as well as in its surroundings.  CUI, Vehari Campus plans to plant around 10,000 plants at two sites of its campus and in different schools of Vehari. In this regard, CUI Vehari Campus collaborated with local district administration and private stakeholders.

The employees and students of CUI Vehari Campus planted around 500 plants under the chairmanship of Honorable director CUI, Vehari campus Prof. Dr. Khair-uz-Zaman at different places in the campus.

CUI, Vehari campus also donated about 1200 plants to six schools of District Vehari for plantation during the plantation drive.

Khushhali Bank Limited donated 50 guava plants to CUI, Vehari campus. Officials from Khushhali Bank Limited also participated in the tree plantation campaign at CUI, Vehari Camus. While Plan Pakistan, a leading local NGO donated 500 fruit plants at CUI, Vehari campus. Additionally, 500 plants were received from Forest department, District Vehari and planted at CUI, Vehari campus. A second phase of plantation will be carried out in the first week of September 2018, in which the students of CUI, Vehari campus will be engaged in the plantation efforts and an awareness seminar. In pursuance of the ‘Adopt a Tree’ plantation campaign on Independence Day, the CUI-Attock Campus, started plantation efforts from August 08, 2018 under the patronage Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rehman Khan, Director, CUI-Attock Campus. With the support of Chaudhry Muhammad Rafiq, Secretary, National Assembly for Farmers, Attock the campus arranged 6000 plants free of cost from PTCL Nursery, Swabi for plantation on campus and elsewhere.

On 14th August, CUI Attock Campus, in collaboration with the District Administration, Attock and a local NGO, Team Green comprising of CUI Alumni planted 3,000 trees. The campaign was extended by an additional plantation of 2,000 trees on Kamra Road, Attock. Further, 1,000 trees will be planted in collaboration with Education University, Attock, DSP, Lines Attock and Police Headquarters, Attock. The campaign is expected to result in a plantation of 6,200 trees in total. The following trees were planted in the campaign;

On the auspicious occasion of 71st Independence Day of Pakistan, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Lahore Campus convened Flag Hoisting Ceremony. The ceremony was attended by a large crowd comprising of Staff, Faculty members and students of the university. Prof. Dr. M. A. Farooqui, Acting Director CUI, Lahore Campus, hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering.

The inaugural ceremony of tree plantation drive was held after the Flag hoisting ceremony to celebrate the 71st Independence Day for a “Green Pakistan” with a plantation of more than 1500 trees at the CUI, Lahore Campus.

The event was jointly arranged by the University's Horticulture Department, Faculty Members, Administration and students. Acting Director, Prof. Dr. M. A. Farooqui, while planting the ornamental and shady trees at the lawn in front of the Baradari announced that the CUI, Lahore Campus, will play its due role in developing pollution-free green Pakistan. More than 60 students together with their teachers arranged 150 plants themselves to join the tree plantation drive of the University.

More specifically, the plantation was carried out at various sites and only plants varieties that are a part of the designed landscape of the Campus, including Ficus (Black, Golden, Hawaii etc), Table palm, Date palm, Phoenix Palm Willow, Mango, Gaman, Bakain,Tabubia, Gul-e-Nastran, Amaltas, Conocarpus, and Ulta Ashoke were planted.

The Tree Plantation Campaign will be extended beyond the CUI, Lahore Campus, for which all nearby schools have been contacted. The students of these school, with the help of Horticulture Department will plant trees in their campuses. It is anticipated that 10,000 trees will be planted in this season alone through the drive.



The CUI-Abbotabad Campus as part of its efforts for enhancing plantation on campus initiated a plantation drive, whereby all withered plants of the campus were replaced with healthy trees. The drive was organized by the horticulture department under the guidance of Dr. Arshad Pervez, Campus Director, CUI-Abbottabad Campus
