The Honorable, Federal Minister of Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs, Mr. Asad Umar graced the occasion as Chief Guest of Opening Ceremony held on December 17, 2018 at COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad. He highlighted the government focus and policies related to Information Technology in Economic Development of Pakistan. Conference Program Co-Chair, Dr. Usama Ijaz Bajwa of FIT-2018 welcomed the National / International distinguished speakers, scholars, researchers and academicians for participating in the ceremony. He highlighted the conference diverse features of providing cohesive international forum to researchers, academicians and scholars for sharing their vibrant ideas of new emerging research in the field of Information Technology. He also thanked the technical sponsors of IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, IEEE Technical Area Green Computing, IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing and IEEE Islamabad Chapter and financial sponsors, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Testing Services (NTS), COMSATS Internet Services (CIS) and COMSATS University Islamabad. During opening session keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Reiko Heckel from the University of Leicester, UK, delivered a key note address titled "Building the Plane and Learning to Fly: How Innovation = Technology + Skills". This year the theme of the Conference was “Innovation – The Way Forward”.

The Best IT Innovation Award ceremony was held on December 18, 2018 at COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad to recognize the participant’s remarkable contribution and encouraging innovations. Honorable Chairman HEC, Dr Tariq Banuri graced the occasion as Chief Guest and awarded the winning team with a cash prize of Rs. 1 million on exhibiting great innovation idea. The winner of BITA 2018 was the company FE AMAAN (http://feamaans.azurewebsites.net/), the winning idea proposal was titled: “Fe Amaan – Fetal Monitoring and Analysis to Prevent Intrauterine Deaths and Stillbirths”. The Chief Guest appreciated the conference and efforts of CUI to make events like BITA as part of the conference, to recognize talent and provide platform for young innovators in IT. Worthy Rector, CUI Dr. Raheel Qamar, T.I., thanked the conference and BITA team for managing the event gracefully. He also thanked the large number of dignitaries and distinguished guests who graced the occasion.

Honorable, Federal Minister, Shafqat Mahmood for Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training graced the closing ceremony of FIT-2018 as Chief Guest on December 19, 2018 at COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad. The worthy Rector, CUI, Dr. Raheel Qamar, T.I., in his vote of thanks appreciated the efforts of distinguished guests, researchers who came from across the globe to share their knowledge and research with conference participants. He also thanked to the organizers for successfully hosting organizing FIT-18 in befitting manner. The Rector CUI emphasized on the importance of Big Data and the exponential growth in data, raising new challenges for the scientists. He thanked Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Higher Education Commission (HEC) and National Testing Services (NTS) for supporting the conference. The Conference Program Co-Chair, Dr. Usama Ijaz Bajwa presented the Post Conference Report. The Honorable, Federal Minister along with Executive Director COMSATS, Rector CUI and General Chair FIT-2018 distributed awards to the winners of best Undergraduate Projects in the fields of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. The date for FIT-2019 was announced to be held from 17 – 19 December 2019.
