As a part of mentorship program by the leading institutes of USA, early carrier researchers from CCRD CUI; Ms. Rabbia Murtaza and Mr. Muhammad Zahir visited USA from August 18, 2019 to September 29, 2019.

This program is primarily aimed at the capacity building of junior researchers from Pakistan, sponsored by the American Institute of Pakistan (AIP) studies and hosted by Dr Gabriel Filipelli from Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI). The visits embarked by presentation on the research activities being carried out at CCRD followed by participation in seminars on various environmental issues, discussion sessions for initiating collaborative research work and visiting research laboratories. Rabia and Filipelli agreed to start working on the health impacts air pollutants; NO2, PM2.5 along with co-writing of articles on the topic. Lectures and roundtable meetings hosted by Monmouth College, Illinois and Indiana University Bloomington campus involved researchers from various nationalities for deliberations on regional environmental issues. Visit to the University of Wisconsin, Madison were hosted by Dr Jamie Schauer, a remote sensing expert working on the monitoring of pollutants in different countries, and he generously offered to support in the analyses of environmental pollutant’s samples from Pakistan.

During visit to the Water Science and Engineering Laboratory (WSEL) in the
University of Wisconsin, researchers learned about the sampling and characterizations methods of particulate matter along with methods for sectioning filters, extraction and analysis for elemental, organic and water soluble organic carbon (EC, OC and WSOC) and extraction for GCMS analysis. Insights on community forestry, habitat restoration, urban naturalists, trash boxes and recycle were obtained during visit to “Keep Indianapolis.
