The INIT is convening the 3rd Two Day International Workshop on ICTs for Development: Mainstreaming the Marginalized, on January 28 – 29, 2020 at Ramada Hotel, Islamabad - Pakistan. The Workshop builds on the efforts of INIT to identify ways through which stakeholders (Academia, Government, Civil Societies, Private Sector) can contribute towards diffusion of technologies for creating a positive impact on the marginalized communities in Pakistan.

The current workshop is developed to build upon the following thematic areas:

  • Understanding the deprived context for learning technologies;
  • Need of awareness of the government efforts on the use of ICTs for development;
  • Technology policies for the provision of ICTs for the marginalised;
  • Educational Technologies for the marginalized;
  • Awareness of the widening digital gender divide and the role of ICTs as a catalyst;
  • Exploring the lack of technical expertise of the marginalised community;
  • Employability through technology; and
  • Importance of ICTs as vehicle of inclusion.

In realization of the above, there is a dire need to devise a strategy on how Pakistan can effectively contribute towards the use of ICTs for Development for the marginalized communities. There is a need for Academia, Industry and Private Sector Linkages especially involving research incentive universities. There is an accessibility gap that needs to be filled for the marginalized via novel concepts coupled with technologies hence achievable through inter-alia linkages generating simple cost-effective solution having the potential to change the ecosystem within Pakistan.

The Workshop would provide a participatory learning experience for the invitees through presentations, panel discussion sessions and open floor discussions on the identified theme areas
