The China Study Center, COMSATS University Islamabad convened International webinar on ‘Adapting China’s Export led Economic Growth Model to Boost Pakistan’s Economy in the Post COVID Era’ on 8 September 2020.

 

On September 8, 2020, a webinar on the theme of "Adapting China's Export Led Economic Growth Model to Boost Pakistan’s Economy in the Post COVID Era" was organized by the China Study Center, COMSATS University, Islamabad.

 

The webinar was part of talk / lecture series on “Learning from China”. The purpose of webinar was to familiarize students of COMSATS University, Islamabad, faculty members, think tanks, government officials and audience in general with export driven economic model of China and its applicability in post COVID scenario.  

 

Participants of webinar comprising of senior government officials, academicians, and Industrial experts discussed whether or not Pakistan could replicate or adopt some features of export driven economic model of China to boost its economy in current scenario as well taking into consideration post COVID economic scenarios.

 

H.E. Dr. Wang   Zhihua, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan was the keynote speaker of the webinar. In his keynote speech, he shared that Pakistan is a country full of potential and opportunities, with rich human resources and good export location.  For traders, access to electricity and other infrastructure is important to promote the steady growth of Pakistan's exports.  Pakistan can make full use of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement to improve the productivity of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in the field of industrial cooperation.

 

Other notable speakers of the webinar were Mr. Hassan Daud, CEO of KP Board of Investment and Trade, Dr. Liaqat Ali Shah, Executive  Director  and  Head  of  Policy  Division-  Trade  and Industrial   Cooperation  at   the   Center  of   Excellence   for   CPEC, Prof. Warwick Powell, Chairman and Founder of Beef Ledger  Limited,  Dr. Fawad  Muhammad,  CAS-TWAS Research Fellow, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ms Jane Cheng Manager, Huzhou Fei Hua Technology, Limited, Dr. Danish Khattak Associate Professor, Guandong University of Foreign Studies.

 

Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Incharge, China Study Center thanked all the speakers of the webinar especially Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and CEO of KP Board of Investment and Trade for their valuable time and sharing their thoughts on the interesting topic of the webinar.
