A seventeen member delegation comprising of faculty members from the department of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of CIIT, Islamabad, Lahore and Abbottabad Campuses led by Prof. Aslam Noor (Professor of the Department of Mathematics), Prof. Raheel Qamar (Dean, ORIC) and Prof. Arshad Saleem Bhatti (Dean, Faculty of Sciences) visited Tsinghua University, Beijing-China from 20th to 25th May, 2012.
During their visit the delegation participated in Tsinghua-CIIT joint workshop which was organized by the School of Sciences, Tsinghua University and the Faculty of Sciences, CIIT. CIIT faculty members presented their research work and had one to one interaction with their counterparts and vice versa. They also paid visits to the research labs and facilities at Tsinghua University and Institute of Chemistry at Chinese Academy of Sciences which will further strengthen the ties between the two institutions.
For further cementing the collaboration with Tsinghua University, Dean, Faculty of Sciences signed a MoU in the areas of collaborative research, exchange of faculty and graduate students (Joint Supervision), Internships at TUSS and FoS-CIIT for undergraduate students, Faculty of Science -CIIT’s faculty development at TUSS, submission of joint research proposals for funding and jointly organized seminars and conferences.
Besides the above, the senior faculty members and a representative of CIIT International Office met Director International Office of Tsinghua University and discussed the possibilities and opportunities to further enhance the linkages between the CIIT and Tsinghua University. They also visited Tsinghua University Science Park (TUSP) and had briefing on its establishment.
At the end, the delegation attended a dinner at the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing hosted by H.E. Masood Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan to China. Before the dinner, Dr. Raheel Qamar briefed the Ambassador about the purpose of the visit of CIIT faculty members and collaborations between CIIT and Chinese Institutions. He also informed that this is the first time CIIT faculty members were visiting a country in such a large group. The Ambassador appreciated the efforts of CIIT towards strengthening the relations between two friendly countries in education sector and also commended on CIIT’s role in building the pillars for a strong nation.
The visiting group members and CIIT are thankful to the Tsinghua University for extending excellent hospitality during the stay of CIIT faculty members in Beijing and for taking the delegation for the visit of the Great Wall of China.
