A  delegation of the University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia headed by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato Tan Sri  Ghauth Jasmon and senior faculty members as below visited CIIT on September 08, 2012 to explore the possible avenues of collaboration between the two institutions;

  • Mr. Yusoff Musa, Acting Registrar, UM, Malaysia.
  • Prof. Dr Noor Azina Ismail, Dean, Faculty of Economics and Administration, UM, Malaysia
  • Prof. Dr Saad Mekhilef, Head of Department (Electrical Engineering), UM, Malaysia.
  • Dr. Jagdish Kaur, Deputy Director, International and Corporate Relations Office, UM, Malaysia,

The  guests were warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, Dean (Faculty of Business Administration), Prof. Dr. Izhar Hussain, (Registrar), Prof. Dr. Sajjad Mohsin, Dean (Faculty of Information Sciences & Technology), Prof. Dr. Shahzad A. Malik, Dean (Faculty of Engineering). The Vice Chancellor and the officials of University of Malaya, Malaysia visited the Department of Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology Laboratory and Central Library of CIIT. The visitors were highly impressed by the well equipped laboratories an appreciated the facilities of the central library. Subsequently, the meeting of the UM delegation was held with the Rector at Rector’s Conference Room.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Malaya, Malaysia has announced that 10-15 CIIT Faculty members may be sent to UM, Malaysia under its fully funded ‘Bright Spark Program .The Vice Chancellor of UM, Malaysia has also invited the Deans of CIIT to visit UM, Malaysia and meet with their respective counterparts at UM to discuss future collaboration in various areas. Local hospitality will be provided by the UM, Malaysia. Similarly, thirty students hailing from various departments of CIIT will also be welcomed to visit UM, Malaysia under its Students’ Exchange Programme.

A Memorandum of Understanding between COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) and University of Malaya (UM) was signed by the heads of two institutions. The MoU will herald a new era of cooperation between CIIT and UM. Finally, the meeting ended with a vote of thanks to each other and also exchange of shields and souvenirs.
