A seminar on “International English Language Testing System” (IELTS) was held at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad on September 7, 2017 at 10:30 pm. The session is part of seminar series, organized under the program “Information Seminars for Higher Studies Abroad” with the objective to educate and orient CIIT prospective candidates with respect to selecting, financing and applying for higher studies abroad.

The purpose of the seminar was to guide young faculty members and students in preparing for the IELTS (Academic).Dr. Samina Nadeem and Ms. Saba Bahareen Mansur from the Department of Humanities, Islamabad campus provided guidance on the IELTS test and also shared tips on how to attempt the different sections of the test.

Dr. Samina Nadeem did her PhD from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad (QAU) in the field of Languages and Linguistics. She has held various important positions such as Chairperson Board of Studies (English) QAU and Director Model Colleges, Islamabad. She has many years of experience in teaching English language and literature at College and University level. Ms. Saba Bahareen Mansur is a Lecturer with the Department of Humanities she is recipient of the Hornby Scholarship for Master’s Program in TESOL from Leeds University, UK. She has over a decade long experience of teaching at university level and has conducted many professional workshops on English communication.

The focus of the seminar was to familiarize the participants on the format of IELTS test and to provide sample tasks/activities on Listening, Writing, Reading and Speaking sections. A copy of the presentation and the supporting material is uploaded at the CIIT blogs.

A good number of participants attended the seminar who, keenly paid attention and participated actively by asking number of questions from the speaker. The audience acknowledged the usefulness of the information provided by the speaker.

The talk was organized by Directorate of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development.

British Council is offering free online course to improve English language proficiency and to prepare for tests. This MOOC will give tips and advice to English language learners to get benefits. The course focuses on the IELTS test (International English Language Testing System). IELTS is an international homogenize test of English language proficiency.

The British Council, in association with Future Learn is offering this free online course. The courses are free of cost and are basically taught in English language. There are four modules in each test- Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. This course will take you through each stage of the IELTS test.
