The Department of Civil Engineering conducted an industrial visit of students of BS 6th semester on June 13, 2022. 71 students of 6th semester of Civil Engineering Department along with the faculty members visited the Sangjani Water Treatment Plant. Mr. Ameer Mehmood Khan, Assistant Director gave a detailed briefing to the students. Students got the opportunity to have a detailed inside view of various components of Sangjani Water Treatment Plant.Industrial visits are part of the curriculum and are very valuable as they provide the students the opportunity of learning through travel, especially to places that they may not otherwise get to visit. Sangjani Water Treatment Plant is Asia’s 3rd largest treatment plant which takes water from Khanpur Dam and treats almost 25 million Gallons of water per day.

The water treatment plant takes water from Khanpur Dam and supplies this to the users in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Representatives from CDA briefly explained the intake structure, components of water treatment like sedimentation, coagulation, filtration and disinfection and storage of treated water. They also explained about the quality testing of water from the source and treated water and the frequency of testing. The visit ended with the words of thanks and exchange of souvenirs.

Industrial Visit, Water Plant

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, CUI Wah Campus arranged an industrial visit for the students of BS E&CE 6th and 8th semester specialization in Power Engineering on June 16, 2022 to the High Voltage and Short Circuit Lab (HV&SC Lab) Rawat, Rawalpindi under the supervision of Assistant Professor, Mr. Fasih ur Rehman, Dr. Sadiq Ahmed and Lecturer Mr. Bilawal Behram. During the visit 59 students got the opportunity to have a detailed briefing on the model of the HV&SC Lab and its achievement of securing ISO-17025 Lab Management System certification. They got an interaction with the senior management of HV&SC Lab. The students learnt about short circuit tests of transformers in their High Power Section, informed and guided regarding the various tests performed in the lab and observed the real-time testing of the different distribution transformers.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering arranged an industrial visit of BS (ME)- fourth semester students to KSB Pumps Company Ltd, Hassanabdal on 31 March, 2022 under the supervision of faculty members. The students visited the KSB pumps industry which is producing state of the art products for both local and international market. Students visited machine shop to observed different machining operations, foundry section where they were guided about the complex details and processes involved in a casting operation. The students also observed different tests that are performed on casted parts in a laboratory. In the last, the students visited the services section and learnt how the defective parts are repaired and what exclusive services are provided by the KSB Hassanabdal.

Industrial Visit, KSB Pumps Company Ltd

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with ASHRAE CUI Wah Chapter arranged an industrial visit for undergraduate student seventh semester, Section 7A & 7B to HVAC Plant, New City Arcade, Wah Cantt on December 16 and 23, 2021.

The students visited multiple departments that are involved in the heating and air conditioning of the Arcade. The students visited the outdoor unit of the Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) System, which is placed on the backside of the Arcade building. After that, students were taken to the basement where they observed the under-construction fire hydrant room and pumps providing the water to the waterfall in the Arcade. The students also visited the mall and observed the indoor units, fire alarms, sprinklers, gas detectors, smoke detectors and ventilation system of the food court.

New City Arcade is a modern aspiration inspired by the Victorian era. It is an ode to art, architecture, engineering, and detailing. It is the build for shopping, entertainment, and ultra-lavish living. It occupies an important place on Islamabad's map, it puts Islamabad on the global map as a destination for tourists, investors, and the business community.

At the end students had a very fruitful interactive questions answers session with experts HVAC plant Engineers in which they discussed multiple potential Final Year Projects related to HVAC, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Students acknowledged the emergence of multidisciplinary streams and the importance of Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration systems in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

On behalf of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Bilal Nutkani and Mr. Shah Nawaz, Lab Engineers thanked Management of New City Arcade, Human Resource department and HVAC department, for their cooperation during the visit.

The Department of Computer Science arranged an industrial visit for Final Year undergraduate students to National Incubation Center (NIC), Islamabad on February 26, 2020 to hone and advance their skills in the areas of robotics, networking, web development and databases. The NIC is Pakistan’s state of the art award winning innovation hub working under public-private partnership with Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoTT) to engage youth in taking initiatives of becoming a stakeholder. The students visited NIC work places, usability labs and meeting rooms to learn and understand the work going on in different demanding areas like deep learning, robotics, networking, web development and databases. At the end students had a very fruitful interactive question answer session with an expert of NIC team in which they discussed a number of incubated projects, their thoughts and ideas.
