To represent and project CIIT, a young international expert of the International Office, Engr. Qaiser Nawab, visited several Western European countries i-e UK, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherland and France in March 2017.
In Switzerland, he visited the Palais des Nations Geneva at a one day event on “Glass Ceiling Effect” and highlighted CIIT’s role as an academic institution in Pakistan committed to overcoming the Glass Ceiling Effect. The glass ceiling is the invisible barrier that prevents women from rising to the highest ranks when pursuing a career. He also visited the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to United Nations in Geneva and gave a presentation on CIIT to the Mission’s officials, which was well received and whole heartedly acknowledged for significant contribution towards the sustainable development goals.
In the Marlborough House London, Mr. Nawab participated as a speaker at a one day conference of The Commonwealth Youth Program titled #I AM ABLE highlighting the CIIT’s efforts directed towards the intellectual empowerment of the special persons, academically and professionally, to attain greater career opportunities. He also highlighted different academic activities in making trust between persons with disability and larger community in Pakistani society. Highlighting the last year international seminar on "Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want" held at CIIT Islamabad, he explained policy impacts and government initiatives for the welfare of persons with disability. Mr. Nawab said that persons with disabilities have great abilities and they are integral part of our society. Keeping in view the importance of the special person around the world, CIIT celebrate on 8th December, to commemorate the UN’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The chief guest of the conference was Commonwealth Deputy Secretary – General (Political), Dr. Josephine Ojiambo, who oversees the political , human rights, rule of law and communications work of the secretariat, was personally briefed and given some literature on CIIT by Mr. Nawab.
In London, Mr. Nawab also introduced CIIT to the Commonwealth Secretary – General, Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC. She appreciated the achievements of CIIT and showed her great interest to working together to reap benefits for the Commonwealth.
In London, Mr. Nawab also visited Westminster, the Houses of Parliament, at a courtesy invitation of Lord Qurban Hussain and Lord Nazir Ahmed to observe the functioning of British Parliamentary system.
Mr. Nawab had a high-level meeting with the Director of Youth Affairs and Education Programmes of The Royal Commonwealth Society, Ms. Helen Jones MBE, and Program officer, Rein de Lour, regarding the identification of possible collaborations/opportunities for CIIT. A formal presentation about CIIT was given to the Royal Commonwealth Society officials, where they highly appreciated the institute’s efforts particularly the promotion of Internationalization in Higher Education in Pakistan. Collaboration in civic engagements, citizenship, democracy, rights of transgender and other marginalized groups were discussed. On account of his active contributions for the promotion of commonwealth values and fulfilling his responsibilities faithfully, he honored to receive his Associate Fellowship degree from the Director Youth Affairs and Educational Programs of Royal Commonwealth Society, Ms. Helen Jones MBE in London, UK.
Mr. Nawab was invited to celebrate the National Day of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on March 23rd 2017 by the High Commissioner for Pakistan in UK, HE Syed Ibne Abbas, where he met Mr. Owen Jenkins, British PM's Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan and Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali, the Attorney General of Pakistan and many British Members of Parliament.
He also met with Ms. Kianat and Ms. Shazia - the companion and survivors during militant attack on Malala Yousfzai in Swat-Pakistan. They are presently under study at UWC Atlantic College, Wales.
Mr. Nawab also visited the European parliament in Brussels to observe its working system. He had a short trip to Amsterdam in Netherland and Paris in France with a message “Education for Peace”. Lastly, he also visited Griona University in Spain to get more insights regarding internationalization of higher education.
