A talk on "Scholarship Opportunities for Graduate Studies in South Korea" was held at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Attock on December 28, 2016 at 11: 30 am. This talk is part of series of a seminars organized by Directorate of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development (P,D and HRD) under the Program “Information Seminars for Higher Studies Abroad” with the objective to educate and orient CIIT prospective candidates with respect to selecting, financing and applying for higher studies abroad.
The purpose of the talk was to educate the young faculty to search, explore and avail admission in MS and PhD degree programs in reputed Korean higher education institutes. Dr. Farman Ullah from the department of Electrical Engineering, CIIT Attock shared his experiences and views regarding the avenues available for higher education in South Korea in different disciplines.
Dr. Farman Ullah received his Ph.D degree in 2016 from Korea Aerospace University, South Korea through the Korean University fully funded scholarship program. He did his MS in Computer Engineering from CASE, Islamabad in 2010 and B.S in Computer Systems Engineering in 2006 from UET Peshawar. During his PhD studies, he worked in different projects funded by Korean National Research Foundation, Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Korea Aerospace Research Institute, and Electrical & Telecommunication Research Institute. He is author and co-author of more than 25 ISI indexed journals, international and domestic conferences. Before joining CIIT-Attock, he worked as Assistant Manager of Telemetry Systems at AERO, Ministry of Defense, Pakistan for 4.5 years.
The focus of his talk was on scholarship opportunities available in South Korea including Korean Global scholarships, Professor/University Scholarships and Korea University of Science and Technology scholarships. Furthermore, topics such as how to contact professor through e-mail, development of statement of purpose, writing research proposal and letter of recommendation were discussed. Additionally, he talked about Korean culture and shared tips with students regarding how to maximize chances of getting scholarship in Korea.A copy of the presentation is also uploaded at the CIIT blogs.
A good number of the participants attended the talk including faculty and students, who keenly paid attention and participated actively by asking number of questions from the speaker. All the audience applauded the presenter and acknowledged the usefulness of the information provided by the speaker.
