A Talk on "Identifying Research Gap for Scholarship Proposals was held at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Attock Campus on July 17, 2019 at 10:00 am. The talk is part of seminar series, organized under the program “Information Seminars for Higher Studies Abroad” with the objective to educate and orient CUI prospective candidates with respect to selecting, financing and applying for higher studies abroad.

The purpose of the session was to educate the faculty members and students on the importance of finding research gap in writing research proposals/papers. Dr. Khawaja Fawad Latif from the Attock campus shared his experiences and views on the issue.

Dr. Khawaja Fawad Latif received his PhD from Abasyn University and a Master’s degree from University of Westminster, UK. He is an active researcher and a reviewer of a number of research Journals. Currently he is Assistant Professor at the Department of Management Science, COMSATS University Islamabad, Attock Campus. Previously he has worked at the City University of Science and Information Technology and Abasyn University.

The session started with the importance of identifying a research gap and on how to search for research gap.  The speaker also discussed on the format of the Introduction Section and later explained in detail on how to develop a research framework. A copy of the presentation is uploaded at the CUI blogs.

A good number of participants attended the session and keenly paid attention to the talk. The audience acknowledged the usefulness of the information provided by the speaker.

The talk was organized by Directorate of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development in collaboration with the CUI, Attock Campus.

A seminar on " Rise of Asia and Scholarship Opportunities was held at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Islamabad Campus on May 30, 2019 at 10:30 am. The talk is part of seminar series, organized under the program “Information Seminars for Higher Studies Abroad” with the objective to educate and orient CUI prospective candidates with respect to selecting, financing and applying for higher studies abroad.

The purpose of the seminar was to guide young faculty members and students on exploring scholarship opportunities for higher studies in Asia. Dr. Munnwar Naz Khokhar from the Department of Management Sciences, Islamabad Campus shared important information, tips and experiences on the topic. Dr. Munnwar Naz Khokhar received his PhD in Entrepreneurship from Department of Management, University of Cordilleras, Philippines and a Masters in Intercultural Studies from Asia Pacific Theological Seminary, Philippines.

The session started with recitation of the Glorious Quran, followed by the presentation of the speaker. The speaker emphasized that, Asia is a fast growing economic region and has many academic and scholarship opportunities. He further explained the different types of scholarships available in Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Korea. Based on his vast experience he also shared his insights into preparing scholarship applications.

A number of participants attended the talk who, keenly paid attention and participated actively by asking number of questions from the speaker.

The seminar was organized by Directorate of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development.

An interactive session of the Sub-Committee of the Senate of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on climate change, led by Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and accompanying Senators; Muhammad Ali Khan Saif and Dr. Asad Ashraf was held on April 30, 2019 at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) to raise awareness about the environmental and health impacts caused by plastic use. Huge numbers of audience representing; civil society, climate change activists, officials of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), academia and students representing various Universities in Islamabad attended the session. All seven campuses of the CUI participated through video link. After inaugural session, Prof. Arshad Saleem Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Sciences CUI, highlighted the problems caused by plastics in terms of their longevity in the environment and once entered in to the food chain, their implications on human and animal health, water bodies and whole ecosystem.


Senator Sayed elaborated the implementation plan of the clean and green Pakistan drive in the Universities and public schools in the first phase. He said that CUI was the first institution to respond to the parliamentary sub-committee call on this issue, when Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector CUI affirmed his commitment for “Just Say no to plastics” campaign by COMSATS in April 2019, where faculty and students of CUI collected plastics and cleaned the area in Islamabad. Head of the sub-committee further elaborated their plans to make the federal capital plastic free by the end of this year. Moreover, legislative efforts done by the sub-committee towards achieving this goal were shared with audience. Afterwards, a lengthy interactive session took place during which questions and inputs were sought from the audience regarding implementation of the “plastic free capital campaign”. Audience input was marvellous to improve the campaign further and full support was extended by the participants.
Dr. S.M. Junaid Zaidi, the executive director of COMSATS in his address encouraged researchers to investigate and accelerate the efforts towards developing alternatives to plastic bags to get rid of the everlasting plastic from the federal Capital.
