Islamabad: Ms. Sabine Vermillard, Scientific and Higher Education Attachée and Ms. Hannah Bieber, French Education Manager, French Embassy in Islamabad visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on Friday, May 20, 2022. The meeting was a follow up of Ms. Sabine’s previous visit to CUI. It focused on the establishment of French corner in the Junaid Zaidi Library and French courses at CUI. Further possibilities for collaboration between CUI and French Universities were discussed.

The delegates were welcomed by Mr Ali Tawab Baloch, Head International Office CUI and his team. They were shown campus and its facilities. Both expressed praises for the lush green campus of CUI. They also visited International Center established under the project funded by Erasmus +.

The meeting between officials of CUI and French Delegates was held in the International Center. It was attended by the Mr Ali Tawab Baloch, Head, International Office, two senior French Alumni working in CUI named Dr. Abdul Rauf Sidiqui, Assistant Professor, Bio Science Department and Dr. Tanvir Akbar Kayani, Assistant Professor, Mathematics Department along-with Ms Samira Shah, Senior Program Officer, International.

The Head International office gave a brief power-point presentation about COMSATS University Islamabad. The mutual areas of interest and possibilities of collaboration and partnership were discussed in the meeting. It was decided to establish a French Corner in the Junaid Zaidi Library and promote learning of French AT CUI.

Head, IO thanked the delegates for taking their time out and visit CUI. While reciprocating, they also thanked CUI for arranging their visit of the campus and its facilities. The day’s activity ended with a group photograph.

Roadshow for Huawei ICT competition Pakistan 2021. A team of Huawei visited Comsats University Islamabad. They shared their road map and then took quiz and play game to distribute gifts for the audience. Thank you Huawei team. We are looking forward towards the competition.

Oct May 16, 2022, Islamabad: H.E. Mr Tamerlan Khalilov, Deputy Head of Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) at 1430 hrs on May 16, 2022 and had a meeting with Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Head, International Office. The purpose of the visit was to explore academic and research opportunities between CUI and Azerbaijan.

Taking the opportunity, Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch gave brief presentation about CUI and visit of campus facilities. He explained about the potential and strength of CUI in imparting quality education, undertaking research and development activities by all campuses of CUI. He also elaborated the achievements made by CUI in the research and development. CUI international rankings and achievements were also presented.

H.E. Mr Tamerlan Khalilov appreciated the efforts and the achievements of CUI in different areas in such a short span. He also assured of his full support to further strengthening the academic relation between Azerbaijan and CUI. It was proposed to initiate academic and research collaborative activities between CUI and universities of Azerbaijan. In addition, different scholarship opportunities available for students of both countries to study MS and PhD degrees in the prestigious universities of Azerbaijan were discussed on bilateral basis to develop stronger academic ties between students, faculty members and researchers of both sides.

The meeting was concluded with a commitment to make all efforts for better future and professional cooperation between Azerbaijan and CUI.

International Office arranged a city tour for newly joined international students in spring 2022 on Saturday March 12, 2022.  International Students from different nationalities from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and Yemen visited different significant areas of capital city.

They visited Pakistan Monument, Shakarparian Park, Faisal Masjid, Fatima Jinnah Park, Blue Area and Centaurs Mall

Most of students were dressed up in their national dress.  Students enjoyed delicious local cuisine in a local restaurant in Blue Area. Tour provided an opportunity to students to get familiar with major places (parks and markets) as well as provide an occasion to get conversant with each other.

Islamabad: The Rector Islamic University in Uganda Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda visited COMSATS University Islamabad on Thursday, February 17, 2022 during his two days visit to Pakistan. The Rector Islamic University in Uganda visited campus facilities including its central library. He met with Prof. Dr. Muhammad T. Afzal Rector COMSATS University Islamabad. He was given briefing about the university, its academics and research activities.

The COMSATS University Islamabad is a public sector university and has seven campuses in Pakistan. It offers more than 100 BS, MS and PhD degree programs, ranging from basic sciences to cutting edge emerging technologies. It has more than 34,000 students with 500 registered international students from 25 countries. It has more than 82,000 graduates. CUI is ranked among top universities of the country according to different international and Pakistani ranking agencies. It is placed in the band of 800-1,000 by Times Higher Education World Universities Rankings 2022 and 3rd in Pakistan. CUI has published more than 20,600 impact factor research publications till 2021. It has filed 93 patents, 36 patents have been granted and 4 licensing agreements have been signed.

Prof. Ismail Simbwa briefed about the salient achievements of Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU). IUIU was established under a bilateral agreement between the Government of Uganda and the OIC. It has four campuses. It has over 600 fulltime faculty members from 8 countries. It offers 91 academic programmes in 7 Faculties and has a student body of 10,000 students from 21 different countries. The University has alumni body of 27,000 graduates.

The Rectors of both universities shown keen interest in having bilateral relations and explored potential areas of collaboration between two universities. Both sides shown their resolve to engage in academic and research activities on bilateral basis and develop stronger academic ties between students, faculty members and researchers of both universities.

Visit ended with vote of thanks to each other, exchange of souvenir and a group photo.
