An eight member delegation led by Prof. Wang Xinyuan and his team from Heritage Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing, China visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on November 19, 2018.
The delegation was received by Dr. Shahina Tariq, Associate Professor, Department of Meteorology and Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Senior Manager, International Office. They were shown different facilities of the campus. The delegation called on Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector CUI in his office in the presence of Mr. Tahir Naeem, Director P& D and HRD and Arch. Zain-ul-Abedin.
Rector CUI acclaimed the visit of Prof. Wang and his team who have been visiting with the purpose of initiating pilot work of exploring and conserving ancient archaeological sites and other world heritage sites around Islamabad under the Digital Belt and Road (DBAR) initiative, which is a ten-year action plan for Scientific Cooperation on Remote Sensing of Environment and Resource that was developed earlier in 2016 between the Chinese professor and Dr. Shahina Tariq, one of the senior professors at CUI.
Moreover, Rector CUI and Prof. Wang vowed to build a cooperative research platform on global changes, space archaeology and digital heritage, especially for using remote sensing technology to investigate, recognize and assesses the natural reserves, world heritage and historic sites on the CPEC with the main purpose of conservation by both the institution. The meeting ended with the presentation of souvenir.
The Rector CUI hosted a dinner in honor of the RADI delegates. H.E. Mr. Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan also participated in the dinner.
