A Talk on " So Who is Good Enough to Get Admission/Scholarships in Top Universities of the World ” was held at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad on May 17, 2017 at 2:30 pm. The talk is part of seminar series, organized under the program “Information Seminars for Higher Studies Abroad” with the objective to educate and orient CIIT prospective candidates with respect to selecting, financing and applying for higher studies abroad.
The purpose of the seminar was to motivate young faculty members and students to apply to the world top universities. Dr. Ramala Shahid from the Department of Biosciences, Islamabad campus shared her experiences and views regarding the avenues available for higher education in in US and Europe.
Dr. Ramla Shahid received her PhD from Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge, UK. During her time at Cambridge she worked on special nucleic acid structures call Quadruplexes and their role in Cancer. She was at Murray Edwards College and was an active member of College MCR (Middle Common Room). Later she won Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship and worked for a year at MIT.
The focus of the talk was on admissions and scholarships opportunities for PhD in the top universities of the world. The speaker emphasized that anyone can get admission in these universities, what really matters is positive attitude and self-determination. She later explained the difference between the US and Europe university systems. The talk also covered avenues for scholarships and approaches to research funding. A good number of participants attended the talk who, keenly paid attention and participated actively by asking number of questions from the speaker. The audience acknowledged the usefulness of the information provided by the speaker.
