Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security

Program Overview

BS Cyber Security program intended to produce skilled professionals to understand the processes that impact information security, safeguarding information assets, collection and preservation of digital evidence, analysis of data, and identification and fixing of security vulnerabilities. The program will equip students with the fundamental knowledge of computer science that forms the technical foundation of the field, with an essential focus on experiential learning through laboratory exercises in the security courses. This degree is a state-of-the-art course with a perfect blend of Cyber Security that is designed to set the graduates up for immediate industry success by combining and leveraging today’s cutting-edge technology with real-world scenarios.

Cyber Security covers a wide spectrum of areas within the field of Cyber Security, ranging from theoretical to practical. Cyber Security students can specialize in areas such as network security, digital forensics, information security, information assurance, secure software design and development, and vulnerability assessment and reverse engineering. It is a four years program consisting of eight semesters. The maximum duration for completion of this degree is twelve semesters. The degree is awarded on completion of 132 credit hours, including six credits for the project, with a passing CGPA of at least 2.0/4.0.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Cyber Security program is to provide high-quality education in cyber security that prepares students for professional careers and lifelong learning in network security, digital forensics, information security, information assurance, secure software design and development, and vulnerability assessment and reverse engineering.

Program Educational Objectives

The program and its curriculum focuses on understanding the processes that impact information security, safeguarding information assets, collection and preservation of digital evidences, analysis of data, and identification and fixing of security vulnerabilities.

  1. Academic Education: Completion of an accredited program of study designed to prepare graduates as computing professionals.
  2. Knowledge for Solving Computing Problems: Apply knowledge of computing fundamentals, computing specialization, mathematics & statistics, basic and social sciences, and domain knowledge appropriate for the computing specialization to the abstraction and conceptualization of computing models.
  3. Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and solve complex computing problems reaching substantiated conclusions using fundamental and advanced principles of computer sciences, cyber security, mathematics & statistics, basic and social sciences.
  4. Design/ Development of Solutions: Design and evaluate solutions for complex computing problems, and design and evaluate cyber security systems, components, or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, adapt and apply appropriate computing and cyber security based techniques, resources, and tools to complex computing activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.
  7. Communication: Communicate effectively with the computing community and with society at large about complex computing activities by being able to comprehend and write effective reports, design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and understand clear instructions.
  8. Computing Professionalism and Society: Understand and assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues within local and global contexts, and the consequential responsibilities relevant to professional computing practices.
  9. Ethics: Understand and commit to professional ethics, responsibilities, and norms of professional computing practices.
  10. Life-long Learning: Recognize the need, and have the ability, to engage in independent learning for continual development as a computing professional.

Career Outcomes

Most of the BS(CYS) specific (core, supporting and elective) courses have been designed from an industrial career perspective. These courses will lead to the achievement of skills required to protect computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from malicious attacks. It will help our students to learn how to use CYS to address real world requirements such as Data security, Endpoint security, Application security, Network security, Operational security, Cloud Security, Identity and Access Management (IAM), Privileged Access Management (PAM), Vulnerability Management (VM), Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), Business Continuity (BC) and Disaster Recovery (DR). Various courses are provided to undergraduate students for specialization in a special domain during their final years. They are planned with a close eye on the CYS job marketplace and emphasis to develop problem solving skills. Furthermore, the degree program will provide students with a strong and broad base of technical knowledge which can be used as a platform for further study and growth as a professional in any particular domain, given that they chose to continue their learning throughout the professional career. The exposure to a university environment will also enables students to embark on a journey of professional growth by continuing to learn on their own and expand their knowledge base and problem-solving skills.

Eligibility

Students are eligible for admission if they have Intermediate or equivalent (‘A’ Level) with minimum 50% marks from accredited institution and *NTS-NAT test score with minimum 50% marks.
