Dr. Sohail Amjad works in the domain of experimental particle physics. He completed his PhD from Université Paris-Sud, France. During his PhD, he has worked on the proposed International Linear Collider (ILC) project. He analysed the data and gave suggestions to improve the performance of Silicon-Tungsten Electromagnetic Calorimeter (Si-W ECAL) of the International Large Detector (ILD). In this regard he worked on the decay of Z boson to quarks and electrons.
Furthermore, he has also worked on the precise measurement of the electroweak couplings of the top quark at the ILC. He used the technique of vertex charge to identify the b-quarks, and hence measure the charge of top quarks.
Dr. Amjad has been involved in the ALICE experiment of CERN, more recently, where studies are underway to probe into the hot and condense nuclear matter, possibly leading to an observation of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). COMSATS is an active member of the ALICE collaboration and the on going work, in which Dr. Amjad participates, focuses on two of the channels under study in this regard.
