Guest Lecture by Ambassador (Retired) Syed Hasan Javed, Director Chinese Studies Centre, NUST, “Lessons from China’s Economic Reforms Success Story” Held on 18th December 2019

The talk was arranged by the China Study Center and was attended by the students and faculty from Engineering, Management Sciences, and Humanities department. Amb.Hassan gave comparative analysis of rise in Per Capita Income of Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Turkey and South Korea from 1965 to 2011. Due to incompetent leadership Pakistan and India failed to grow as compared to the other mentioned countries. While dilating on the question of political and economic development he mentioned that since the reform and open-up policy was adopted in 1978, china has realized the rapid economic growth, resulting in the wealthy Chinese people, prosperous nation and her rising status in the world. China has captured the world attention. After four decades of reforms and opening up, china has entered into a medium-high income stage and is expected to join the high income countries list by 2025. As a way forward he suggested that it is important for us to learn Chinese language as it is dire need of time and we should put our all efforts on education. The lecture evinced interest among the participants who raised probing questions during the discussion that followed the lecture.
